Joey Mars Bio: Spring 2004

For over 20 years Joey Mars has been creating vibrant, high tech hybrids bouncing and playing in technicolor worlds of dynamic, organic proportions. The Joey Mars fan base is a huge demographic. People of all ages collect the work. Baby Boomers to Generation X, Y and Z come together over the fun, energy filled, passionately alive creations.

INTERNATIONAL POP ARTIST:

The art of Joey Mars has been distributed and sold in all corners of the globe. Through manufacturing and distribution deals with companies such as Liquid Blue, Polygram, Raven, Net Sales and Shop Therapy over 1.5 million dollars of Joey Mars merchandise is worn and adorned. Recent years have seen the evolution of the art transforming on gallery walls. Mars has been exhibiting in Provincetown, Massachusetts, the nations oldest art colony.

ROCK AND ROLL ART DESIGNER, ILLUSTRATOR AND PROMOTER

Aerosmith commissioned Mars for a T-shirt design on their Get a Grip Tour. The work came about after singer Steven Tyler saw a guest at his house wearing a Joey mars shirt and he flipped out over it's fresh and wild design. The rock and roll giants Grateful Dead tapped Mars for three sticker designs in 1996. Pearl Jam's first concert ever is chronicled on a Joey Mars poster for a Citi club gig in 1991. The poster, flyer and mural work of Joey's in Boston in the late eighties and early nineties help usher in the "Alternative Rock Music" breakthrough into the mainstream. Mars ran the Worcester Artist Group for a year where he booked and promoted shows at the group's warehouse featuring the acts Dinosaur Jr., The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Well Babys and scores of other musicians, poets and performance artists.

MASSACHUSETTS NATIVE:

Born in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1963. Growing up in between the baby boomers and gen x'ers. Mars channels and combines the hippie counter culture element of the late 60's and early 70's underground art with cutting edge graphics and concepts of the high technology ravers and jam band fanatics.

BOSTON ART SCHOOL TRAINED:

Joey attended art school in Boston in the early and mid eighties. Mars was lucky enough to attend the acclaimed Vesper George School of Art before it's closing in 1984. He went on to The Art Institute of Boston and it's fun filled Kenmore Square Campus.
